VIDEO: Abrahamsen, who broke his collarbone a month ago, brought a historic victory to the Norwegian team

Less than a month ago, Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X Mobility) broke his collarbone in the Tour of Belgium, but today he won a stage in the Tour de France, giving the Norwegian club its first-ever victory in the French Tour.

Abrahamsen, riding a Ridley Noah Fast, edged out Mauro Schmid (Jayco-AlUla) in a close race, with Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) third. Abrahamsen and Schmid were part of a five-man group that took the lead early in the 156.8km stage and held on throughout the day despite several strong attacks from the main group.

"I broke my collarbone four weeks ago in the Tour of Belgium. I cried in the hospital because I thought I wouldn't be able to ride the Tour," Abrahamsen recalled. "The next day I was at home on the trainer and I was hoping I could go to the Tour. Every day I did everything I could to come back. And now to be here and win a stage in the Tour – it's incredible."

"I knew I had a pretty good finishing speed, but since we had been ahead for a long time, I had to be smart and not overdo it. In the end, I hoped I could overtake Schmid at the finish. We were ahead with strong guys, but the gap to the main group was never more than two and a half minutes. We worked all day to close the gap and now it's just so good to take this win," added Abrahamsen, who showed an average speed of 63.7 km/h in the last 500 m.
