White Diamonds - Madis Mihkels' team starts Giro with new jersey

Madis Mihkels' employer EF Education-EasyPost has released a special team jersey for the Giro d'Italia to avoid confusion between the traditional pink leader's jersey and the pink race uniforms of the American team. The jersey, which features pink sponsor logos and a light gray checkered pattern on a white background, is called "White Diamonds" and was designed by Rapha.

It was also confirmed that the leader of EF Education-EasyPost will be 2019 Giro winner Richard Carapaz. The Ecuadorian rider will be supported by Kasper Asgreen, Georg Steinhauser, Alexander Cepeda, Owain Doull, Mikkel Honoré, Darren Rafferty and James Shaw.

"The Giro is a very important race for me, both as an athlete and in my career, because it was the first three-week cycling tour that I was able to win," said Carapaz. "I have prepared well for this and I have big ambitions. This is my fourth Giro. The previous three were very good and I hope this one will be as good or even better."

Carapaz last competed in March, finishing 10th in the Tour of Catalonia, after which he has been training in his home country. "The team is very well prepared. We know our plan. We will put all our experience on the table to make the Giro ours. We don't hide our ambitions: we want to win this race. We have had this plan for months. We want to win. That is the main goal of the team right now. Everyone knows what is at stake. We want to do it well and we hope for the best."

The Giro begins on Friday with a 160km group stage in the Albanian city of Durrës.
