There are unconfirmed reports that the 2027 Tour de France will start in Britain, with an official confirmation expected in March. If that happens, it will be the third time the Tour has started in Britain - it started in London in 2007 and Yorkshire in 2014.
According to an official report, a total of 4.8 million spectators visited the three stages held in Great Britain in 2014, generating a total revenue of £128 million for the local economy.
Britain had previously announced plans to start the 2026 Tour with the aim of moving the first three stages to England, Scotland and Wales. However, it was recently revealed that 2026 will start with a team race in Barcelona.
Over the past 70 years, the Tour de France has started abroad 26 times. This year's Tour will start on July 5 in the Hauts-de-France region of northern France.
