Madis Mihkels, who finished in the top ten in four stages of last year's Giro d'Italia, will not be participating in this year's test of strength. The EF Education - EasyPost rider took a short break after the spring classics period and is currently focusing on training.
The 21-year-old Estonian will next compete in the Boucles de la Mayenne, a multi-day race in France that starts at the end of May, followed by either the Critérium du Dauphiné or the Tour de Suisse. Traditionally, the Dauphiné and Tour de Suisse are preparation events for the Tour de France, so it is possible that Mihkels will compete in the Tour de France for the first time.
According to the Procyclingstats portal, the current EF Education - EasyPost team for the Giro, which starts in Albania on May 9, includes Georg Steinhauser, Richard Carapaz, Samuele Battistella, Rui Costa and James Shaw.
