The Uno-X Mobility team will be wearing the 7-Eleven name today in the Liège-Bastogne-Liège classic to celebrate sponsor Reitan's association with 7-Eleven in Scandinavia and the American team's debut in the 40th anniversary Monument Classics. VIDEO
The Uno-X Mobility riders will swap their traditional red and yellow racing uniforms for the legendary green and red worn by 7-Eleven in the late 1980s. The Uno-X Mobility team cars will also be wearing the 7-Eleven colors — perhaps one of the boldest outfit changes seen since the UCI allowed teams to change their uniforms for certain races and events.
UCI rules allow for the use of an alternative team uniform for up to three events during the season, once it has been approved.
The 7-Eleven team was the first American team to compete in the Tour de France and full-scale races in Europe. Dag Otto Lauritzen became a national hero when he became the first Norwegian to win a stage in the Tour in 1987 as part of the 7-Eleven team. Lauritzen will be with the team on Sunday as honorary sports director.
Eddy Merckx equipped the 7-Eleven team with bikes in later years, and the Uno-X Mobility riders will be using a special red and green color scheme Ridley Noah Fast bike on Sunday.
PS! You can order a Ridley bike in 7-Eleven colors from the BikeFanatics store. Take advantage of this exclusive opportunity and be the first!
