Madis Mihkels' employer, EF Education-EasyPost, unveiled a special team jersey for the Giro d'Italia to avoid confusion between the traditional pink leader's jersey and the American team's pink racing attire. The jersey, featuring pink sponsor logos and a light grey checkered pattern on a white background, is named "White Diamonds" and was designed by Rapha.
It was also confirmed that the leader for EF Education-EasyPost at the Giro will be the 2019 winner, Richard Carapaz. The Ecuadorian cyclist will be supported by Kasper Asgreen, Georg Steinhauser, Alexander Cepeda, Owain Doull, Mikkel Honoré, Darren Rafferty, and James Shaw.
"The Giro is a very important race for me, both as an athlete and in terms of my career, as it was the first three-week tour I managed to win," said Carapaz. "I have prepared well for it and have big ambitions. This is my fourth Giro. The previous three were very good, and I hope this one will be just as good or even better."
Carapaz last competed in March, finishing tenth in the Tour of Catalonia, after which he trained in his home country. "The team is very well prepared. We know our plan. We will put all our experience on the table to make the Giro our own. We are not hiding our ambitions: we want to win this race. We have had this plan for months. We want to win. That is the team's main goal right now. Everyone knows what's at stake. We want to do it well and hope for the best."
The Giro begins on Friday in Durrës, Albania, with a 160 km group ride.
