VIDEO: Abrahamsen, who broke her collarbone a month ago, brought Norway a historic victory

Less than a month ago, Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X Mobility) broke his collarbone at the Tour of Belgium, but today he won a stage at the Tour de France, securing the first-ever victory for a Norwegian club on the French tour.

Abrahamsen, riding a Ridley Noah Fast bike, narrowly beat Mauro Schmid (Jayco-AlUla) in a sprint finish, with Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) taking third. Abrahamsen and Schmid were part of a five-man group that broke away at the start of the 156.8 km stage and held on throughout the day, despite multiple strong waves of attacks from the peloton.

"I broke my collarbone four weeks ago at the Tour of Belgium. I was crying in the hospital because I thought I wouldn't be able to race the Tour," Abrahamsen recalled. "The next day, I was already on the trainer at home, hoping I could go to the Tour. Every day, I did everything I could to come back. And to be here now and win a Tour stage – it's unbelievable."

"I knew I had a pretty good sprint, but since we had been away for so long, I had to be smart and not overdo it. In the end, I hoped I could beat Schmid in the sprint. We were with strong guys, but the gap to the peloton never exceeded two and a half minutes. We worked all day to build that gap, and now it just feels so good to take this win," added Abrahamsen, who averaged 63.7 km/h in the final 500m.
