At the European Track Cycling Championships in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium, Great Britain's Anna Morris broke the world record twice in the 4000m individual pursuit. In the qualifying round, the Welsh cyclist completed the distance in 4:28.306 and in the final in 4:25.87, beating Italy's Vittoria Guazzini by 7 seconds.
"The end was very tough," admitted Morris. "I found some extra power when I saw Guazzini on the same straight in the final part of the race. This was my first European title and the world record made it even more special."
The women's pursuit distance was extended this year from 3000m to 4000m, mirroring the men's event. Before this weekend, the women's world record was 4:30.752, held by New Zealand cyclist Bryony Botha.
