One of the world's best female cyclists signed a rare contract

Dutch female cyclist Marianne Vos has signed an exceptional contract extension with Visma-Lease a Bike, allowing her to continue competing for the team as long as she wishes. Vos, hailed by many experts as the greatest female cyclist of all time, has been riding for Visma-Lease a Bike since its inception in 2021.

"This gives me the opportunity to look ahead year by year, but I'm not thinking about ending yet. There are many opportunities after an active career, but that's not my focus right now. I wasn't considering retiring or wanting to think about an end date, so this was the ideal agreement that allows me to focus on the present and just keep going. It also provides peace of mind – I don't have to think about when or what to do, but just need to be in the best shape," said the 37-year-old Vos.

This is a rare type of contract, but not unprecedented for Visma-Lease a Bike. For example, male cyclist Wout van Aert signed a similar contract in September 2024. "We didn't talk directly about the contract with Wout, but he will also be present at the Amstel Gold Race. We sometimes meet at races or training camps, and he congratulated me on the agreement, so I am very happy – as is Wout," Vos shared.

Vos, who was crowned Olympic champion in London in 2012, has also won the road race world championship three times and the cyclo-cross world championship eight times. Last year, she won the gravel world championship. It may sound unbelievable, but Vos sees room for improvement in herself.

"The team has big goals, and it's great to be a part of that. I don't want to set specific promises or goals. I just want to give my best and look for areas where there is still room for development. It might sound strange, but in terms of training, nutrition, and other elements that have evolved over the years, there is still a lot that can be worked on," she confirmed.
