women's club started the Vuelta in 17th place

Laura Lizette Sander and Aidi Gerde Tuisk started the Vuelta in the ranks of their home team, Team Coop-Repsol. In the 8.1 km team time trial held in Barcelona, the Norwegian team had to accept 17th place out of 21 competing teams.

Tuisk crossed the finish line with her team's top five riders, while Sander was 8 seconds behind. The victory went to the USA-registered Lidl-Trek (average speed 51.1 km/h), with Team SD Worx - Protime and Liv AlUla Jayco finishing 3 seconds behind. The 38-year-old Dutchwoman Ellen van Dijk donned the red leader's jersey.

"Last year my team also won the time trial, but I crashed in the last corner and had to abandon the Vuelta two days later. So I don't have the best memories," van Dijk recalled. "But I like team time trials, especially with this team. Team director Jeroen Blijlevens came to me before the start today and said it would be nice if I crossed the finish line first. The plan worked today, and it's a great honor from the team that I get to wear the leader's jersey."

The Vuelta features seven stages, with a 99 km mass start race scheduled for tomorrow.
