Pro Net, admitting that the situation where there were three significant crashes in the final 5 km, caused him serious concern.
"The whole race was very nervous. I have to be honest - I was very scared for the last 20 km and I have to thank luck that I managed to avoid crashing," said the professional cyclist from EF Education - EasyPost. "The last crash, 900 m before the finish, seemed particularly bad. I haven't seen it yet, but from what I've heard, it wasn't pretty."
"The achievement means a lot to me because it was my first podium finish in a World Tour race. I can only be happy about it. And I'm glad that my form is getting better and better," added Mihkels.
In today's E3 Saxo Classic, Mihkels did not finish in the top ten. His next start will be on Sunday, when he competes in the Gent-Wevelgem in Belgium.
