Mitme Eesti ratturiga seotud tippmeeskond kaotab kauaaegse nimisponsori?

Which top team, linked with several Estonian cyclists, is losing its long-time title sponsor?

French newspaper Le Télégramme reports that after 25 seasons in professional cycling, insurance company AG2R La Mondiale plans to end its sponsorship agreement with the French WorldTour team of the same name at the end of this year.

The team, officially named Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team, declined to comment.

AG2R is one of cycling's longest-standing sponsors, starting with its involvement in the Casino team in 1998. They became the main sponsor of one of France's most prominent WorldTour teams in 2000 and remained in that role until 2024, when sportswear manufacturer and retailer Decathlon became the title sponsor.

Estonian cyclists who have ridden for Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team include Jaan Kirsipuu, Lauri Aus, Innar Mändoja, Rene Mandri, Erki Pütsep, and Tanel Kangert. Well-known cyclists such as Romain Bardet and Jean-Christophe Péraud have brought Tour de France podium finishes to the team over the years. Also noteworthy are Ben O’Connor's 4th place in the 2021 Tour de France and 2nd place in the 2025 Vuelta a España.

According to Le Télégramme, cosmetics company L’Oréal will become a second sponsor starting next year. When Decathlon joined the team, it was announced that the company would become a co-title sponsor at least until 2028, and the team would continue to use Van Rysel bikes.

Unofficial reports indicate that the team has already signed contracts for 2026 with sprinter Olav Kooij and all-rounder Tiesj Benoot from the Visma-Lease a Bike team. Additionally, some of France's most promising young talents, Paul Seixas, and Austrian climber Felix Gall, will remain with the team at least until 2026.

According to Le Télégramme, Matthew Riccitello (Israel-Premier Tech) will also join the team in 2026.
