Madis Mihkels, who finished in the top ten in four stages at last year's Giro d'Italia, will not participate in this year's event. The EF Education - EasyPost cyclist took a short break after the spring classics season and is currently focusing on training.
The 21-year-old Estonian will next compete in the multi-day race Boucles de la Mayenne, starting in France at the end of May, followed by either the Critérium du Dauphiné or the Tour de Suisse. Typically, the Dauphiné and the Tour de Suisse serve as preparation for the Tour de France, so it is not out of the question that we will see Mihkels competing in the French tour for the first time.
According to Procyclingstats, the EF Education - EasyPost roster for the Giro, which starts in Albania on May 9, currently includes Georg Steinhauser, Richard Carapaz, Samuele Battistella, Rui Costa, and James Shaw.
