Ahead of this year's Republic Day, President Alar Karis is awarding state decorations to 203 individuals, among them cyclist Rein Taaramäe.
The 38-year-old Taaramäe, who pedals for the Japanese club Kinan Racing Team, remains in good form – he recently won the Sharjah Tour in the United Arab Emirates. He is the reigning Estonian time trial champion.
Over the course of his career, Taaramäe has won two stages at the Vuelta a España and one stage at the Giro d'Italia, and has achieved overall victories at the Arctic Race of Norway, the Vuelta a Burgos in Spain, and the Tour of Slovenia. Taaramäe has also made a significant contribution to the development of Estonian cycling, with a cycling school bearing his name operating in Tartu.
Congratulations, Rein!
